My younger siblings are coming over for a holiday break. Both are successful professionals in their field (Law & Education) but still kid-at-heart.
So imagine my excitement compiling things to do in Melbourne around this season of joy!
First off: Gingerbread Village
Ohhh... that yummy smell is in the
air again! In its 4rth year now, the Gingerbread Village is on display at
Melbourne Town Hall from December 1, 2014 to the 24rth. Epicure's Executive Pastry
Chef Deniz Karaca, his 12-strong team and a brigade of sweet-toothed volunteers
spent over 2,000 hours creating the Gingerbread Village.
In his own words: “This year we will
be baking over 500 kilograms of gingerbread, using 300 kilograms of royal
icing and 120 kilograms of marzipan. Our team painstakingly makes around 800
miniature Christmas trees to creative the festive backdrop. Our
gingerbread making sessions are a lot of work but loads of fun. It’s a
mammoth effort, taking over 2,000 hours,” WOW!
Oh Luna Park... |
This year you'll see some
recognisable landmarks, including the Melbourne Town Hall, Melbourne Cricket
Ground, Luna Park and a zoo, all connected by the Christmas train - a feature
no gingerbread village should be without! I can almost see Sheldon's
glee.
DO NOT EAT THE DISPLAY!
If the smell and sight of this
yumminess makes you hungry, Epicure's pastry chefs has delicious
gingerbread treats that can be purchased on site, including gingerbread men,
hearts and ice-cream. Yey! Please join me and my love ones - let us all go to
the village!
