My mother was into this technical side of entertainment, much more so than my father- who'd rather read than watch shows on TV. CNN and ESPN then was on day in day out in our TV downstairs. I never really give it much thought but later on I realized that it was the source of my interest on anything newsy and all current events.
Mama had all the TV gadgets - from the antiquated Betamax, VHS, video recorder and the earliest dvd players. She'd fix them when they conk and she was always successful. She loved the soaps then - Dynasty, Colby's, Falcon Crest etc. When she finished watching the rented tapes, she'd crave for the next episode - so off I go, late at nights (sometimes with our house help) to Southern Bazar in the city and knock on closed roller doors if the Chinese owners have the recent recordings. Most of the time they do, but sometimes I'd only take home: Calamares - crispy deep fried fresh tiny calamari rings. Chinese are so enterprising- they sell those too. Those were the days...
These days, Rich and I watch TV together as our way of winding down a big day's work. He records our fave shows. His machine can record 3 shows while watching another. Cool, yeah?
We have a massive curve screen. The sounds are so real many times I jumped thinking there were crickets behind my seat. Now don't get me started with the booming war and action sounds. They are amazing and I swear the walls rock to the sound. We have a big collection of DVD of our favourite movies, and lately we just buy bluray and 3D. Unless it is a massive production we just wait til that movie comes out in DVD, around 3 months - we are not in a hurry since we have Platinum Class Cinema experience right under our nose.
Here are some of our favourite TV shows.
JACK BAUER IS BACK!!!!! - We have always loved 24. I think the action shows that followed it are not as good - now it is back! Though only for a short season we are ready! We miss you Jack!
Elementary! I love Sherlock Holmes and Dr Joan Watson. I watch reruns and sometimes I wonder if Angelina Jolie watches this brilliant show of his ex husband Jonny Lee Miller. I like Lucy Liu |
The Good Wife! I just love this show. |
We enjoy INTELLIGENCE with Sawyer from the old LOST! I heard they are not extending the series but hey I am still a big fan. It is a good action, techie show.
Still the best. REVENGE. 'nuff said.
The only Australian cooking reality show I can stand. Just love it. MASTERCHEF! I try not to be emotionally attached to any contestant because it can be draining. I cheer like they can hear me, I bemoan how they beat the eggs wrong...oh gee, yeah I am totally invested in this show. I do try to relax and enjoy (not live tweeting) while learning new cooking techniques.
The Voice Au I love this season's judges! I love Kylie, Will.i.am, Joel and of course Ricky Martin!!! I always ask Rich to sit with me and for some reason my husband knows who'd turn, and who the contestant would pick as the coach. Never fail.
Resurrection caught our eye and got hooked. I love this show but I only watch it when Rich is with me. It kinda spooks me out a bit.
And for lighter viewing, the silly & witty The Big Bang Theory! :-) you never know which classic actor of the nerd world would come and grace the show.
and Two Broke Girls - I know the cast now and they really make me laugh.
and last but not the least - all time favourite Modern Family. I just love them! I think I speak like Gloria when I am angry. Ha! When the cast visited Australia early this year, I was tempted to go to Sydney to follow them around! But in real world I had to work. :) So no can do.
While Rich is a big fan of Science Fictions like Star Trek, and other shows like Mythbusters, Top Gear, whole Discovery Channel, etc - I am not. We are so different and yet so similar.
One thing we have in common though - is our childlike excitement at the end of a hard day's work, when we sit in our lounge together ready to let OUR shows join our day.
